for The Villager May 2007
The health benefits of physical fitness are well documented. However, beginning an exercise program can be overwhelming and potentially dangerous. Don’t give up. The perfect person to help you lives right here in VOC.
Kim Hollenback’s Solid Rock Fitness is a one-woman business dedicated to helping people shape up safely and efficiently.
Originally from Minnesota, Kim earned a degree in geology at Colorado State. She financed her education by shining boots at a country and western nightclub. It was during these years that she joined her first gym triggering the passion that would later become her profession.
After graduation, Kim found the geology market failing; so she returned to Minneapolis where she founded her own all female shoeshine business and successfully expanded it to ten locations.
In 1993, Kim discovered Sedona on an RV tour of America. She became a Villager in 1995 and now has 2 daughters attending Big Park School.
Physical fitness continued to be Kim’s calling. Through practice and study she achieved certification to instruct disciplines ranging from water aerobics to kick boxing. Her group classes are offered at the Hilton facility.
Kim operates Solid Rock Fitness in a fully equipped studio at her home. She personally tailors her instruction to meet the unique physical needs and challenges of her clients. Form, balance and flexibility are stressed to avoid injury. Kim believes that physical fitness should relieve aches and pains, not cause them.
“I enjoy helping people overcome physical limitations they thought were insurmountable”, says Kim. Nevertheless, she’s perfectly capable of training you for the Super Bowl, if you’re up to it.
To be credible, a personal trainer should look the part, and Kim definitely looks credible. In fact she looks like a fitness goddess. I’d elaborate further, but my wife reads this stuff.
In spite of her looks and accomplishments, Kim remains sweet, patient and unassuming. Her training approach is never pushy or intimidating.
Much of Kim’s boundless energy is devoted to our community. She is president of the Big Park PTSA and volunteers for fundraising projects that benefit the Village.
